The Grand Hotel Trento, built between 1939 and 1942 by the engineer John Lorenzi (1901-1962), is a beautiful example of rationalist architecture that was inspired by the work of the architect Erich Mendelsohn (1887-1953) and represents the historical passage between the medieval and the modern city. In the architectural structure of the volumes and lines emerge the futurist experiences of the designer, who, in 1933, participated  in the first "National Futurist Exhibition" of Rome, he wrote a Manifesto of futurist architecture and published in the "Dinamo futurista", a magazine directed by Fortunato Depero, the artist from Rovereto with who he had a long association.

In the nineties the building underwent a radical restructuring by the architect Glauco Marchigiani, who elevated it by one floor. Even the interiors were reconfigured to better meet the new demands of hospitality in the hotel, while maintaining a classic style inspired by the fin-de-siècle.
